So most of you guys are probably already familiar with the Esstac KYWI magazine carriers that have been on the market for, I want to say over a decade. They've been around for a long time. A nylon magazine pouch that utilizes a Kydex insert for good retention and fast reloads. And we have a couple products here that we are offering that support these specific inserts. And Esstac has been selling these inserts for chest rigs and other people's products for a long time. So this is the tall version of their insert. They have a few different lengths for the different products on the market.
And when we were designing the T.REX TRAAP Chest Rig, one of the things that we wanted to do was allow you guys to be able to either run the bungee pull tabs like this chest rig comes with by default. Or remove the pull tab and actually insert a Kydex insert so that you can have a little bit faster reload. It's just an open top pouch for those of you that are into that sort of thing.
When you purchase one of these, you will see that there is a sticker on one side explaining the magazine type and the height. And then there is a strip of Velcro hook on the back side. And this is enough to keep the insert inside of the product from coming out of the product as you are doing your reloads. So I'm going to go ahead and show you guys how to drop this into the trap. First thing we are going to do is I'm going to remove the pull tab on the TRAAP. Because I don't need double retention.
Then what you are going to do is you are going to squeeze the insert together. And because this pouch only has Velcro loop on the inside, that is the side you are going to be using the hook on. Obviously, just logic. But to slip this in there without it catching, I want to make sure I'm pushing the KYWI up against the side that does not have Velcro while I slip this into the pouch. I can also run my hand on this side to cover it up. Push it all the way in. Release. Maybe push it down on there.
And you're done. That's it. And then it can take your standard 5.56 standard AR carbine type magazine in any direction. So if you are a lefty and you want to run rounds forward this way, you are good to go. If you are a normal person and you want to run rounds forward, you are good to go right there. You get good retention and it's also easy to re-index the magazine into. So one thing you might want to do is, hey, I've got my speed reload pouch which is over here on this side. The rest can be bungees because that's okay. And you just purchase one of these to have a speed reload and it is quite fast. If you want to loosen the retention on these, it's a pretty straightforward process because this is kydex. All you have to do is remove it from the chest rig or your pouch. Heat it up with a heat gun or a hair dryer and then you drop a magazine in there. Kind of squish it to the magazine, get it to where you want it and you can loosen the retention up. Esstac does put quite a bit of retention on these which is a good thing by default. But I have in the past to loosen these a little bit for speed reloads just because the retention was just a little too much. And so you can do that with these especially if you are using it in a chest rig type format.
Now another product that supports this insert, the tall size, is our MIP pouch. So this is the medium item pouch. And once again, another thing we wanted to do with this was to make a pouch where you can use it in any way. You can run the flap that it comes with and have a traditional flat mag pouch. You can remove the flap. And there are two little bungee guys right here and you can then attach a bungee using our S&S Precision Pull Tab Kit. Or you can fashion your own with shock cord and something. Or you can go get the Esstac 5.56 Tall Insert. Once again, we have loop velcro on one side of the pouch and then the other side I'm going to take my insert, squeezing it together, running my hand on the inside so that it doesn't catch on the velcro.
And then I'm just going to push all the way down without it catching, which it has caught. There we go. Now, I have a MIP Pouch (Medium Item Pouch) that has been adapted for a Kydex insert. And you'll see that there's some Kydex sticking up off of the top and that's just kind of how it is just based on the sizing of this pouch and what this was originally designed for. But if you already had this on your belt, now you can do your reload into that and you're good to go.
The most likely application for this particular product is in the TRAAP chest rig and potentially some future products that we'll be offering here at T.REX ARMS. So if you're someone who's into Kydex retention but you have a nylon product that has loop velcro on the inside, definitely check these out. They allow you to ditch that pull tab, ditch that flap and just literally run down there, grab the magazine, reload and stow the magazine easily. And I really appreciate Esstac making these for so many years.
