When we started designing a hybrid holster to offer here at T.REX ARMS, one of our objectives was to make it compatible with an existing product. So if you have purchased an Ironside in the last however long that we've had it out and you really like it for outside the waistband, or maybe you don't, but you already have the holster, it's cold, you got your jacket over it, it's starting to heat up and you maybe aren't wearing jackets to conceal a pistol or a holster like this and you want to go inside the waistband. We wanted to design our hybrid system or holster to be able to be compatible with the Ironside, which is why it's called the Ironside Hybrid.
So we have this backer that's made out of a synthetic material, it's called Alcantara, it's actually used for the interior of some supercars, some Lamborghinis and some other stuff like that. It has some properties that we were specifically looking for as far as holding up the weight of a handgun, specifically a full metal gun with a weapon light and possibly with an optic and an extended magazine, I mean those guns can get pretty heavy, you know, three plus pounds, but also allows some modularity with a clip placement and then we obviously had to get it custom made with some special spacing for the holsters and you can purchase this right here, use the same hardware from your Ironside and convert it into an inside the waistband holster.
Now we have three different sizes, technically, of backers because we're trying to optimize the experience with the Ironside Hybrid holster. There's a couple things though that I want to note and for the most part you guys don't have to worry about this. When you go to purchase one of these you're going to select the handgun size or the holster size that you're using and we will go pick the right size for that holster. But in case you have purchased one of these, say, now and then in a year you want to move a holster over, there's a couple things you need to understand. We have one skew that is a little bit smaller, this is for the compact handguns, so Glock 19, P365, things like that. We have one that's a little bit larger for guns that are full size length and with threaded barrels and extra hundreds weapon lines like that. And then we have this size over here which is actually the same as our normal full size handgun size, but the spacing for the holster itself is wider. The reason for that is there's some guns out there that are so tall like the P320 with an extra hundred or TLR1. There's just some guns out there that are so long and tall compared to say a Glock that our screws have to be spaced out a little bit differently. But you'll see there's consistency in the screw pattern here so all of our Ironside's are compatible with these. You could take a Glock Ironside, put it on here, take that off and put an M&P on there as well. This saves you guys money from having to buy tons of different parts or completely unique holsters and that was a big goal of ours. So I have my Ironside right here for an X300. Glock 17 is one of the ones that I used originally when we launched this product and I'm going to convert it over into a hybrid holster.
When you're done removing the hardware off of your Ironside, you're going to find that some of the posts and hardware and rubber washers are different sizes. All you need to do is take the exact same group of hardware from each side and duplicate that onto the Ironside Hybrid. So the posts are going to go on this side for the where the adjustable retention is. So long posts. We're going to use these small rubber washers. And those are going to create some space between the kydex holster and the actual Ironside Backer itself. Drop the sucker on. Long posts or screws. I always get them mixed up. I used to do this. We'll keep them a little loose for now. Now this side is a little bit more complicated and a little bit trickier because we're going to have the posts on the inside of the holster because of our folded holster design. So I'm going to have to kind of get my finger in there and finagle with it. So posts really get those placed. We're going to be at the very top. And then while you're holding this post, I highly recommend taking your larger rubber washer, going ahead and threading that on. That will keep it in place while I go to finagle the next one.
When you're going to actually screw all this in, I highly recommend to prevent the post from just spinning freely. Take your finger, grab the backside of the post on the inside. Check the tension. Tension is pretty good. And there you have it. I've just taken my existing Ironside holster that I had a year ago. I took a Ironside Hybrid backer and I was able to convert this now into a very nice hybrid inside the waistband holster that is a little bit easier to conceal. I can still manipulate these clips and move them up and down to change the angle of this, the pistol in the holster. It starts at a 10 degree can't if you just go to, you know, when you add the kydex shell to the actual backer, you're not going to be using the different screws on the iron side to try to adjust the can't. The can't is actually adjusted with the clips that are on the Ironside backer. Don't try to do that with the holster because it's not going to line up with all the different holes. So you're going to use your clips and you're going to adjust it. And then you have a very nice modernized hybrid holster. And I will go ahead and put it on. Nice and comfy. And I can now carry my quite massive handgun just fine.
It's not everybody wants to do appendix. If you have any other questions about this product compatibility with other products on the market or compatibility with just handguns or just any question in general, go ahead and email us at team@trex-arms.com.
